Description
Fan-made music video for “I Don’t Hear You” by Toni Basil, the closing track from her self-titled album of 1983. The song was never released as a single, and has remained pretty obscure over the years. Personally, I like “I Don’t Hear You” for its relatable lyrics (which - in my mind at least, are about a parasocial relationship), but the instrumentation is cool in its own right. This is a good example of early ‘80s new wave / pop rock. I’m well aware of how unlikely it is for Toni Basil herself to watch this video, but if - by some miracle - she actually did, that would make my day.
In any case, the story told in this video was (in a way) inspired by various thoughts of mine, as well as experiences with parasocial relationships and when - at one point (and this is going to be grim) - I was contemplating un-aliving myself just to escape the obsession. I have since made an effort to move on from those dark thoughts.
I tell you, this particular video was a nightmare to make, and I felt like I couldn’t catch a break because of Train Simulator being more unstable than usual for no good reason; never mind the fact that I always run the game in 64-bit mode, I guess. The game kept crashing during loading from the scenario editor (or the main menu) to driver mode, and even in driver mode itself at one point. I got sick of how often I had to set-up rolling stock in the scenario editor over and over again, and eventually had to trash all the footage I had shot on the ‘Bessemer & Lake Erie (a.k.a Pennsylvania Steam)’ route and tried using ‘Midland Line - Springfield to Aickens’ instead, even though that required a drastic shake-up of the story and locomotive cast. It didn’t help that the ‘KB’ and ‘JA’ steam locomotives can be a right pain to drive, and they gave their fair share of problems to boot.
(I do not own the original song. All material used in this video is property of its respective owners).
