Testosterone & Semen Retention: Myth Busting Clinical Studies
=
Some guys swear semen retention skyrockets their testosterone levels. Others say itâs a complete myth.
Letâs see what the clinical studies revealâŠ
Today weâre talking about semen retention, which basically means not having an orgasm or NoFap â what it really does, what it doesnât, and how it actually impacts your testosterone.â
The Claim
On YouTube or TikTok, youâll hear claims like semen retention âdoubles your testosteroneâ and itâll increase your sex drive and put on more muscle.
They claim that by not having an orgasm, your body keeps increasing testosterone because having an orgasm just happens to also drain your testosterone levels.
Most of these claims, or âbro science,â are based on a 2003 study where there was a 145% increase in testosterone levels on day 7 of not having an orgasm for 7 straight days.
Is this true? Can you more than double your testosterone levels by not having an orgasm and âretaining your semenâ.
The Science
Hereâs what research actually shows:
A Chinese study in 2003 looked at men abstaining from sex or masturbation. Testosterone levels stayed the same for the first 6 days.
On day 7, there was a small spike â but by day 8, testosterone returned to baseline.
What happened after more days of no orgasms?... No additional increase, nothing long-term and no permanent boost in testosterone levels.
Why is this?
