Description
Your President At Work
January 5-9, 2026
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. started the first week of the new year by
signing the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Fiscal Year 2026. He
emphasized the importance of governance reforms and greater accountability. The main priority sectors in this year’s GAA include education reform, health protection, food security, social protection and job creation.
The President ensured he was hands-on across all government projects and
other infrastructure developments. Despite inclement weather, he inspected the Piggatan Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan, which collapsed on 6 October 2025, after a truck exceeding the weight limit crossed it. The President directed the
concerned government officials to expedite the construction of the detour
bridge.
The hearts of Cagayanos were also filled with gratitude as the Chief Executive led the inauguration of the Camalaniugan Bridge, which will shorten travel time and create more opportunities and employment for them.
President Marcos Jr. also made sure to attend the opening of the Cagayan
Provincial Athletic Association (CPAA) Meet at the Camalaniugan Sports
Complex. He delivered a brief message to all the athletes and congratulated
them in advance. He reiterated the importance of athletes’ training in
developing their character, discipline and sportsmanship.
Aside from infrastructure development, the government’s main priority is
improving the education system. To support this, the President led the launch of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Project AGAP.AI at Quezon City Science High School and visited the ongoing construction of the fire-damaged building at San Francisco High School, also in Quezon City.
