Description
On the Himalaya mountains, in the remote high altitude desert valley of Zanskar, ranging between 3000 and 7000 meters, local populations have always been dependent on glaciers which - melting during the spring - provided the water necessary for cultivation and life. In recent decades, the scenario has changed: rising temperatures have caused the reduction of glaciers and water scarcity, leading to the disappearance of many villages.
Today, in an unequal battle against climate change, the people of Ladakh construct artificial glaciers, mixing traditional techniques and modern practices, to combat the lack of water in spring and contribute towards groundwater recharge.
