Description

Yesterday, Charlie and I had a terrifying experience. We were out in the backyard when a massive limb snapped off our big tree, breaking exactly where a honeybee nest was located. The bees immediately began swarming and stinging me. Panic set in as I frantically ran around the yard looking for Charlie, terrified he had been crushed underneath the heavy wood. Unlike me, Charlie had the good sense to bolt away from the falling branch. When he finally came back toward me, the swarm turned on him. Thankfully, his long hair completely protected him from the stings. I quickly grabbed him by the scruff and tossed him safely inside the house, all while still being actively swarmed and stung. I sprinted to the front of my house on the driveway to escape the bulk of the bees, swatting at myself to get them off. By the end of it, I had been stung over twenty times. Once the bees were gone, I headed inside to check on Charlie. I gave him a dose of Apis mellifica 30 just in case he had been stung, and I began repeatedly taking homeopathic Apis mellifica 30 and Ledum palustre 30C to treat my own stings and bites. Apis mellifica 30 is for bee stings and Ledum palustre 30C is for swelling from insect bites. After that, I grabbed some tweezers and started pulling stingers out of my scalp, my eyelid, and just under my eye. We are both fine now, though definitely shaken up. Our focus has shifted to helping the bees find a safe new home, and a beekeeper named Jesse came by today to assess the situation. I'll have more updates tomorrow, but the biggest lesson I learned from Charlie is this: if you hear a branch cracking, run away—don't stand there trying to watch it. We are insanely fortunate.
