She’s 22 and sleeping outside in freezing cold

Kaie is homeless in Winnipeg. Last night, she did not really sleep. She walked around all night because it helped keep her warm. She says she has been in foster care since she was four years old. Her dad signed them over as permanent wards because he believed it would give them a better lifestyle than the one he could provide while struggling after her mom passed away. Now, at 22, she is surviving outside in the cold. Young adults leaving foster care need real support, real stability, and real pathways to housing. And we need to fix a foster care system that too often fails the young people it is supposed to protect.
