Fort Worth Zoo welcomes largest elephant calf ever — and he's got a Texas-sized name

Meet Sam Houston — no, not that one. The Fort Worth Zoo welcomed a new male Asian elephant calf on April 1. He made his public debut on Thursday at Elephant Springs, according to the zoo. At birth, Sam Houston weighed 285 pounds, stood 36 inches tall and became the largest elephant calf born in the zoo’s history.
