We’re in Palmanova, Mallorca, for the Trofeo Calvià — the opening race of the 35th Challenge Mallorca — but conditions today are far from calm.
Rain is falling steadily as Storm Joseph approaches the island, turning this early-season classic into a much tougher test than usual.
The Trofeo Calvià is a UCI 1.1 one-day race of just under 150 kilometres, run over rolling and technical roads around Calvià. In dry weather it already favours aggressive riders and puncheurs — in the wet, positioning, confidence, and experience become even more decisive.
As the peloton rolls out under grey skies, WorldTour and ProTeam squads face a very different kind of season opener. Slippery roads, reduced visibility, and uncertain conditions mean today is less about pure power — and more about control, nerve, and timing.
With the neutralised start complete and rain still falling, the 2026 Trofeo Calvià gets underway — a stormy beginning to the European road season.
Thanks for watching.
