Description
The Shepherd's Leap Secret 🪵
Salto del Pastor, or Shepherd’s Leap, is a traditional technique from the Canary Islands that helped people move across steep volcanic landscapes long before modern roads existed. Instead of walking around cliffs or dangerous slopes, they used long wooden poles to go straight over them.
The pole works like a moving support. When a person jumps down, they plant the pole into the ground first. This absorbs part of the impact and slows the fall, so the body does not take the full force. As they slide down along the pole, they stay balanced and in control, turning a hard drop into a smooth, guided descent.
This method allowed shepherds to travel quickly, cross gaps, and reach places that would otherwise be too risky, all while staying safe with simple tools and skill.
