Description
If you've ever set up data colors in your Power BI model — expecting them to apply consistently everywhere — and then added a legend and watched everything break, this one is for you.
In this clip from my interview with Zoe Douglas (Feature PM at Microsoft), she reveals what's coming for conditional formatting in Power BI — and it's long overdue.
Here's what's on the way:
🔹 Conditional formatting for legend colors — your data color rules from the model will finally apply even when a legend is present
🔹 Conditional formatting for line colors — direct formatting on the line itself, not just the workaround via bar-to-line conversion
🔹 FX button on marker colors — edit marker color conditionally, just like you'd expect, without constantly switching back and forth
As Zoe put it — once you add a legend today, you lose the ability to apply your model-defined colors consistently. That workaround era is ending.
This opens up a huge amount of flexibility — especially for teams that need specific colors assigned to specific elements consistently across their reports.
