Kavita was born and raised in Australia, but she said that doesn’t stop people from telling her to ‘go back to where you came from’. “My voice is not welcome here … I’m not even really allowed to have an opinion about the country that I was born in,” she said. More than half of Australians think immigration rates are too high. Kavita believes people often avoid directly mentioning race in these discussions, but that the conversations can still be racist.
