In northern Chad, the Ennedi massif rises from the Sahara like a fortress of stone. For centuries, nomadic communities have moved through these canyons and plateaus, navigating an environment that appears hostile, yet conceals hidden water and life. In this labyrinth of rock, survival depends on intimate knowledge of the land. Gueltas, natural rock basins fed by underground streams, shape routes, rituals and seasonal movements. Around them, families pass down oral histories, pastoral traditions and a relationship to the desert forged over generations. This is also the land once explored by botanist Hubert Gillet in the 1950s, who revealed to the outside world a sanctuary of rare species and ancient ecological memory. But long before scientific expeditions, it was nomads who understood how to live here, adapting to the slow transformation of a Sahara that was once green. Through encounters, testimonies and immersive journeys into the massif, the film reveals a community life shaped by isolation, resilience and a deep connection to a landscape that holds the last traces of a vanished world.
