My name is Sissi, and today I’m teaching you how I achieved this cute, best-selling image. First, I already had the baby in a tummy pose. Then I asked my assistant Jenny to quickly swap the pillow to the moon prop. With my left hand, I gently lifted the baby’s arms and head together — keeping everything exactly in position. With my right hand, I applied gentle pressure behind the neck to prevent the startle reflex. This step is very important. Because if the baby wakes up, you have to start all over again. As long as the baby is not fully awake, with gentle soothing, they can settle back down like nothing happened. Then I place the baby into the inner curve of the moon. I open the fingers and position them under the cheek — making sure the cheek is not squished or deformed. One hand always stays behind the neck to prevent the startle reflex, while the other hand adjusts the details. Once the baby is in a deeper sleep, I slowly release my hands, pick up the camera, and shoot quickly.
