Description
A really varied visit today. First theft at 3:37 and Lil Sis chases the Kooka! There are a mess of termites under the bale and despite Lil Sis foraging very close to Dad she doesn't get attacked. At 12:00 I thought Dad was trying to peck her in the head but he was just trying to steal her roach.
Interesting Mexican standoff in the tree – I think when Dad landed he was going for the insect that was the cause of the first (off camera) dispute. And, of course, he lost it.
There were termites under the bale. I think Lil Sis has developed a liking for them as she really dug in and cleaned them up. I did a frame-by-frame when she was solo at the end and they were small, white objects she was eating at times. Roaches too, of course, but she ate a heap of termites.
Despite it drying off around here you can see from the Magpie catches that there are still plenty of insects about. This is why the magpies aren't coming very often. There's plenty of food about. I don't know why the Kooka feels the need to thieve. Maybe stolen food tastes better (Wizard of Id reference there).
I took some footage on my phone when I tried to give Dad a grasshopper off camera at starting at 14:23 – Dad let it go, Lil Sis found it eventually and then the Kooka swooped in and took it. I haven't even checked that footage to see if it's any good. I've been busy. I wanted to get this video up yesterday but didn't have the time – and it turned into a long edit.
Cheers folks!
