Description

Two sailors have been taken to hospital with injuries after a major collision between the Black Foils and France at the start of the third race at SailGP Auckland. The injuries were to one sailor from each team. Both were said to be in stable condition in a statement issued by SailGP. The other sailors have all been accounted for and a salvage operation to rescue the two damaged boats is underway on the Waitematā Harbour. Racing was abandoned for the day just before 5.30pm on Saturday afternoon, with just two of the four scheduled races completed. Sunday’s racing – three more races and the three-boat grand final – was scheduled to start at 11.30am. It had been brought forward from 4pm due to forecast high winds. The Black Foils have spent most of the past month repairing their boat after it was damaged in the season-opening event in Perth. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stuff NZ is New Zealand’s essential news source — bringing you live, lively and trustworthy journalism from every corner of Aotearoa.
