Brown Tabby Cat Shows off and Guards His Prey, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, after a Successful Hunt

A neutered male of brown tabby cat (Felis silvestris, family Felidae) had caught a juvenile Eurasian Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus, family Passeridae) and brought it back home. He meowed repeatedly under the table and he proudly showed off the prize on the carpet. He didn’t eat the prey on the spot but simply toyed it around. When I came closer to retrieve the dead sparrow, the brown tabby cat got angry in the end. Captured in the midafternoon (around 14:30 PM) of late-August 2022 in Japan. Meanwhile, you can hear a male of ming-ming cicada (Hyalessa maculaticollis, family Cicadidae) singing loudly outside the house.
