Description

In this physics demo, Dr. Tatiana shows how to make a motor with just a nail, a battery, a magnet, and some wire! 🧲⚡ Make a magnet attracted to a head of the nail; then bring the sharp tip of the nail to the negative terminal of a battery. The nail will get attracted! Now connect the wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the edge of the magnet. You just need to touch the edge of the magnet with the end of the wire, and the magnet starts spinning like magic! The force acting on the current flowing through the magnet creates a torque which rotates the magnet. Try it yourself with a parent but please see safety tips below. ⚠️ 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀: - The battery and wire can get hot 🔥 — only run the demo for short periods. It's safer to use a copper foil instead of a wire. - Disconnect the battery immediately if anything starts heating up. - Be extra careful when handling nails — they can be very sharp! - Children must be supervised by a parent when helping with this demo. 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗱: - 1 nail - 1 battery - 1 magnet - 1 copper wire or foil 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱: - Lorentz force - Simple electric motor 👍 LIKE and SUBSCRIBE for fun science content! ➡️ Follow links at linktr.ee/tamuphysastr #tamu #science #physics #shortvideo #reels #motor
