Kristi Noem will be replaced as the Secretary of Homeland Security by Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin following a slew of controversies, including "eye-popping" prices for warehouse detention centers to defending the death of U.S. citizens by federal ICE agents. Noem’s chief advisor and rumored side piece, Corey Lewandowski, will also leave his position at the Department of Homeland Security. Trump’s ouster of his top immigration enforcement official adds to the turmoil around the administration's signature second-term initiative, again putting the spotlight on a deportation push that has faced setbacks amid intense backlash. Markwayne Mullin was elected in a special election to serve the remainder of the term of the late Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., who retired midterm in 2023. Mullin served in the House before his election to the Senate and was first elected in 2012. During his Senate tenure, Mullin has been a steadfast Trump ally and a top communicator for the Republican caucus.
