Are some of these cars effectively being pre-registered, sold cheap as “used”, and then helping inflate the used EV sales story? And if used EVs are also changing hands rapidly, does that help explain why the sales percentages look so impressive? Because if the same vehicle is being counted through multiple quick transactions, that is not necessarily proof of healthy long-term demand. It could just be proof of churn. I go through the listings, the short ownership patterns, and what this could mean for the claims we keep hearing about soaring EV demand, rising used sales, and a market supposedly going from strength to strength.
