Magnificent Riflebird Sounds - Loud, rich whistling calls

The sounds of a Magnificent Riflebird making its loud, rich whistling calls in a lowland rainforest in New Guinea. The call of this species varies across its range - the northern Australian birds making a distinctive clear 'weeeow-whit' wolf-whistle, whereas the western New Guinea birds make repeated upward-inflected, hollow whistles “woiiieet-woit” as in this recording. The Magnificent Riflebird (Ptiloris magnificus) is a species of bird-of-paradise found on Cape York in northern Australia and also in parts of New Guinea.
