Passengers claim Delta flight held for late flyer reportedly related to airline executive

Passengers on a Delta Air Lines flight departing Salt Lake City said their plane was held on the tarmac for nearly an hour to wait for a late-arriving passenger they were told was related to a senior airline executive. The flight, Delta 4279 operated by SkyWest Airlines, was scheduled to travel from Salt Lake City to St. George on Thursday night. Several passengers told 2News they were informed by the captain that the delay was at the request of “his boss” to accommodate a late passenger. Some passengers said airline staff told them the individual was the daughter of a SkyWest executive. SkyWest said it could not confirm the identity of any passenger and disputed that the delay was for a single person. “The flight was held for more than one passenger,” a SkyWest spokesperson said in a phone call, adding that holding flights for delayed connections is not uncommon when operations allow.
