I teach all the rhythm work on a 6-string acoustic so you can follow along with whatever guitar you've got, then jump onto the electric for Richie Sambora's incredible solo. For the outro I pull out my Taylor 254CE 12-string just to get a bit closer to the original recording, because every time I hear a 12-string I immediately think of this song. You don't need a 12-string to play this. Everything fundamental is identical on a 6-string, you just get a slightly fuller, more shimmery tone with the 12. If you're a beginner the verses and chorus are a great challenge to work through. If you're a bit further along, there's a ton to dig into with the little riffs and licks scattered throughout. And if you're more advanced, the solo is a flash of brilliance from Richie, full of cool techniques and well worth the time. Here's a fun bit of history. Jon Bon Jovi has said the song was inspired by listening to Bob Seger's Turn The Page on a tour bus across the midwest in 1985.
