The incident occurred during the second innings of Lahore Qalandars vs Karachi Kings match at Gaddafi Stadium, just before the final over when Karachi needed 14 runs to win. On-field umpires noticed the ball's condition had been unfairly altered after a brief discussion involving Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Fakhar Zaman. They awarded 5 penalty runs to Karachi Kings and replaced the ball, which helped Karachi chase the target successfully. According to the PCB statement, Fakhar Zaman has been charged under Article 2.14 of the PSL Code of Conduct for breaching Article 41.3 of the playing conditions (prohibiting any action that changes the condition of the ball). Fakhar denied the charge during the initial disciplinary hearing conducted by Match Referee Roshan Mahanama. A follow-up hearing is scheduled within the next 48 hours, after which the final verdict will be announced. If found guilty, the minimum punishment for a Level 3 offence is usually a one-match ban plus a fine.
