This week’s Virtual Safari is a story of instinct, patience, and a little bush magic to find two adorable leopard cubs. For weeks, the Ngungwe Female has been moving her cubs between dens, keeping them well hidden. But on this particular morning, as the sun rose and a gentle drizzle painted a rainbow over the koppie, we had a feeling—had she moved them again? Following a hunch, we sat quietly near a rocky outcrop, waiting. A chorus of alarm calls led us into a drainage line, where we found her resting in the river sand near a cluster of boulders. Was this the new den? There was only one way to know. After 45 minutes of quiet anticipation, a rustle in the grass revealed two tiny, wide-eyed cubs—just two months old—venturing out into the open. Over the next two hours, we had the privilege of watching them tentatively explore their surroundings, still unsure of our presence but slowly growing in confidence. To round off the drive, we find ourselves amid an action-packed scene: a pack of wild dogs interacting with a hyena, before a dazzle of zebra and a herd of wildebeest enter the mix.
