Description
Engelbert Humperdinck (born Arnold George Dorsey in 1936 in India) rose to international fame in the late 1960s with his rich baritone voice and smooth ballads. His breakthrough came in 1967 with “Release Me”, a song that became a global sensation. Originally a song by Eddie Miller from 1949, Humperdinck's version reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart—famously keeping The Beatles’ “Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever” from the top spot—and climbed to No. 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The single sold over a million copies in the UK alone and topped charts in more than a dozen countries. In 1986 a new version was released titled “Please Release Me”. This recording is from Dutch program TROS TV Show and broadcasted on February 6, 1987.
