The South Island continues to feel the effects of four days of an intense weather system, with reports this evening of evacuations in Oamaru and Dunedin following landslides. Kaikōura too has been significantly damaged after two months' worth of rain fell in just 48 hours, washing away roads and cutting off communities. A state of emergency remains in place tonight, with people still sheltering at a local marae - and others just beginning to move into recovery mode.
