This hill tribe rarely gets visitors, and our arrival sparked an adventure that I could have never planned. The Dupa tribe, also known as the Nyem-Nyem, is an indigenous ethnic group residing in the Adamawa Region of Cameroon, particularly around the Gashaka and Mambila Plateaus. Known for their rich cultural heritage, the Dupa are skilled farmers and pastoralists, deeply connected to their environment. They cultivate crops such as millet, maize, and sorghum, and their society is structured around age-grade systems and community leadership. The tribe holds vibrant ceremonies featuring traditional music, dance, and storytelling, which serve to preserve their oral history and strengthen communal bonds. Despite modern influences, the Dupa strive to maintain their traditional way of life while navigating contemporary challenges.
