Description
As food insecurity grips Ottawa, with 1 in 4 households struggling to put food on the table , we’re proud to inaugurate our largest local initiative yet—a new community food bank designed to bridge the gap left by critical funding shortages.
Why This Matters:
The Ottawa Food Bank recently announced cuts of 20–50% to 98 local food programs due to soaring demand and limited resources.
Over 556,000 annual visits to Ottawa’s food programs highlight the urgency, with 37% of recipients being children.
HCI’s response? A proactive, community-driven food bank to ensure no neighbor goes hungry. Founded in Ottawa 45 years ago, we’re doubling down on our mission to uplift vulnerable populations—locally and globally 15.
Collaboration for Change:
Special thanks to Mayor @Mark Sutcliffe for announcing a $5M city initiative to bolster food security efforts. This partnership underscores the power of collective action in tackling systemic issues.
HCI’s project aligns with calls for sustainable solutions, addressing gaps left by underfunded social programs and rising food prices.
