🚨Pilot reports a collision with a drone 👇 A routine United Airlines flight from San Francisco to San Diego became the subject of a federal investigation on Wednesday morning after the aircraft reported a mid-air collision with a suspected drone.  Flight 1980, a Boeing 737 carrying 54 passengers and crew, was descending through 3,000 feet on its approach to San Diego International Airport when the flight crew alerted air traffic control to a strike.  During the radio transmission, ground control asked for technical specifics about the object. The pilot responded, "It was so small I couldn't tell. It was red... it was shiny." The aircraft landed safely without injuries, and United Airlines officials confirmed their maintenance team "found no damage after thoroughly inspecting the aircraft." The Federal Aviation Administration is actively investigating the incident. Civilian drones are legally restricted to altitudes below 400 feet in uncontrolled airspace and are strictly prohibited from flying near commercial airport arrival paths.  An altitude of 3,000 feet is exceedingly rare for standard consumer drone hardware. Aviation experts are debating whether the object was a highly modified drone, a mylar balloon, or a high-altitude hobbyist glider.
