What a Day in a Japanese Daycare is like

It is a privately run school known for its learning center and entrance exam preparation courses that help students move on to some of Japan’s most prestigious elementary schools. I wanted to see firsthand what daily life is like for children here and what they are actually learning at such a young age. Each morning begins with teachers reviewing detailed notes from parents about meals, sleep, and health. This communication system helps teachers understand each child's condition for the day so they can give the right care and attention. From there, the kids take charge of their own belongings, unpack their bags, get dressed, and organize their things. These small routines are designed to build independence and responsibility. Their teacher, Aika, leads the Kinder class for four and five year olds. Meals are freshly prepared by in-house nutritionists, teaching children balance and healthy eating through shokuiku, Japan’s food education philosophy. In the afternoon, students join exam prep lessons. Known as ojuken (お受験), Japan’s elementary school entrance exams are highly competitive, testing academics, physical exercise, behavior, and even interview skills.
