A short life doesn’t mean a less important one. Hamsters are complex and intelligent animals, they experience stress, fear, excitement and comfort just like any other pet. They know the difference between a small cage and a spacious one full of enrichment. They are certainly aware of their existence. A hamsters lifespan shouldn’t be an excuse to provide them with less- if anything it should be a reason to give them more. They often only get 2 years on this earth and rely solely on us to make that time comfortable and enjoyable. I don’t see this as a chore or waste of money, I see it as a privilege.
