Prompt engineering is not a job. In 2023, Anthropic posted a $300,000 prompt engineer role and it sparked a wave of courses and career advice built around a title that was never going to become a standard profession. In 2026, prompting is a skill that shows up in every job that uses AI. It is how you get information from a model, the same way Googling is how you get information from the web. Nobody hires a dedicated Google engineer. If you are learning AI, do not let anyone convince you that prompt engineering is a career path worth building toward.
