Eric Abril pleads guilty after deadly 2023 Mahany Park shooting

Eric Abril, the man who held two people hostage and got into a deadly shootout with law enforcement during a search operation in broad daylight at a Roseville park, pleaded guilty to his crimes, a Wednesday release from the Placer County District Attorney's Office read. His guilty pleas were for first-degree murder, kidnapping and the attempted murder of a peace officer, the release read. He is expected to face life without the possibility of parole for murder and additional prison time for his other charges. The California Highway Patrol tried to serve an arrest warrant on Abril around 12:30 p.m. on April 6, 2023, at Mahany Park.
