The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is the heavy-lift workhorse of the United States Marine Corps (USMC). For decades, it has stood as the largest and most powerful helicopter in the U.S. military inventory, designed specifically to transport incredibly heavy loads from amphibious assault ships to deep inland positions. The Next Generation: CH-53K King Stallion While the CH-53E has been an invaluable asset since entering service in 1981, decades of rugged service in desert and maritime environments have taken a toll. The USMC is currently transitioning to its successor, the CH-53K King Stallion. While it looks physically similar, the CH-53K is an entirely new aircraft featuring fly-by-wire controls, composite blades, and nearly triple the lifting capacity at high-altitude, hot-weather conditions.
