Description

The evidence on the beach today is undeniable, and it is time for the commercial fishing industry to answer some incredibly serious questions. We tracked down a young pup entangled in a piece of heavy rope that someone had clearly used to repair a broken fishing net. The repair might have served its purpose for the vessel, but it ended up wrapped tightly around a seal's neck. Nearby, Naude came face-to-face with an old nemesis on the sand: a massive piece of discarded commercial anchovy netting. The tragic reality is that the fishing industry won't answer for this. They don't have to change their practices as long as society continues to tolerate this destruction as mere "collateral damage." As long as we accept bycatch and ghost gear as an unavoidable part of seafood production, nothing will ever change. It is truly up to all of us collectively to demand accountability, enforce stricter laws, and force these industries to clean up their act. Our ultimate dream at OCN is to be put out of a job entirely, but until the world changes, we will be right here on the sand fighting for them. 🦭 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Please visit our website to find out more about our work and how to support us: ➡ Website: https://www.ocnamibia.org/ ➡ Donate via Paypal: https://ow.ly/BTm550PIavq ➡ Donate via Stripe: https://ow.ly/Xy1F50PIMzQ ➡ Support via Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/OCN ➡ FAQs: https://www.ocnamibia.org/faqs Follow us on social media: ➡ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oceanconservationnamibia/ ➡ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OCNamibia ➡ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@oc_namibia ➡ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/ocnamibia/ ➡ Twitter: https://twitter.com/ocnamibia 😊 Thank you for every like, share, comment and subscribe 😊 Ocean Conservation International is registered as a non-profit organisation under chapter 501(c)3.
