Description
The new house we’re building is absolutely flying.
We’re almost ready to pour the basement- here’s everything I need to do to get the slab inspection.
First, we’re required to put 4’ x 8’ sheets of 2” foam around the walkout section of the basement.
Because this part of the basement will be above ground- this foam is required for insulation.
The top of the foam is level with the gravel, so there’s room for the 4” concrete slab.
Next, the plans called for a thickened slab under all the load bearing walls.
We dug out extra gravel in these areas so the slab will be 8” instead of 4”.
Time for the vapor barrier- We’re using 10 mil poly.
Code requires a 6” overlap. I like to go at least a foot and tape down the edges.
Finally, I put rebar in the thickened slab areas.
I cut up slab bolsters to use for chairs.
They have a plastic coating on the feet, so rust won’t spread from the ground up into the rebar.
The plans call for 2 pieces of ½” rebar under each load bearing wall.
I throw a few scoops of gravel on top, so the wind won’t blow up the poly.
We’re planning to show the basement pour, like and subscribe so you don’t miss it. @hausplans
