Toyota FINALLY Made a PHEV RAV4… but pay 3k Extra! (GR Sport Review)

PHEV RAV4 is late to the party and $66,340 to get in. I got behind the wheel of the brand new #ToyotaRAV4PHEV in both XSE and GR Sport variants to find out if Toyota's sixth-generation plug-in hybrid system can still compete in 2025.The numbers hit hard. XSE 2WD starts at $58,840, XSE AWD at $63,340, and the GR Sport AWD sits at $66,340. Combined output is 227kW on AWD, 0 to 100 in 5.8 seconds, WLTP electric range of 113km, and a 50kW DC fast charger gets you from 10 to 80% in just 28 minutes. But here is my take on the GR Sport specifically. This is not a body kit with a badge. Toyota gave it a 20mm wider track, a unique suspension and steering tune, GR sport seats, suede knee pads on the centre console, 45W USB-C fast charging (the XSE gets 15W), and a second wireless charge pad. For $3,000 more than the XSE AWD, that is a real upgrade. The #PlugInHybridAustralia market has been moving fast while Toyota was getting here. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has owned this space for years, and the Kia Sportage PHEV and Hyundai Tucson PHEV have been applying serious pressure at the mid-range. Toyota is stepping into a crowded room at a premium price. The question is whether the brand trust, the wider GR Sport stance, and that 5.8 second sprint justify the wait.
