I had my four-year-old son with me, and the trail quickly proved rougher and more overgrown than expected. As daylight faded and heavy rain set in, we ended up wandering through the woods, bushwhacking in the dark while it poured rain to just find the cabin. I got my son settled in and then had to cut a trail across the property just to finally reach the cabin with the side-by-side. The next morning brought another challenge—a flat tire—and the need to figure out a new plan in a very remote place. After the cabin adventure, deer hunting season was upon us. I head out with friends to a remote hunting spot, reaching it by canoe, setting up a wall tent, and installing Stealth Cam trail cameras. We captured some great pictures of mature bucks before the hunt even began. This video shares both the rugged adventure of getting into the backcountry and the excitement of preparing for deer hunting, showing the challenges, decisions, and quiet moments that come with life in the wilderness. 👉 Check out Swellfish Inflatable Boat we use in this video here: (If you order from this link, I get a 2% commission) https://swellfish.co/JIMBAIRD Other off-grid adventures: 🚤 👉 Download my e-book "the Complete Written Works of Jim Baird" here: 📖 🛶 🎣 https://www.theadventurer.com/product-page/complete-written-works-of-jim-baird-adventurer 👉 Check out some of my previous videos surrounding our off-grid cabin: - ❄️ Winter at our Cabin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDoKsvVR-PU&list=PLdWkde9gml__5IwR_jRr60U15IOFrPuqi&index=4 - 🌲🪵 Five weeks at out off-grid cabin in the summer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjPo2J39UAg&list=PLdWkde9gml__5IwR_jRr60U15IOFrPuqi&index=2 👉 Here's a previous hunting video I filmed on a fly-in moose hunt in Oct 2025: 🫎 🚁⛰️ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSeLsmW-G-Q&list=PLdWkde9gml_-qvLAydqrY-MJip93brLyk Follow me on social media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jbadventurer/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jbadventurer tiktok: https://tiktok.com/@jbadventurer Check out my Amazon shop here: https://www.amazon.ca/shop/jimbaird-adventurer?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsfshop_0K9WXSPJMJYHKKWCJ9C5 Chapters: 0:00 Off-Grid Cabin Miss-Adventure with my Son Overview 0:32 Wall Tent & Freighter Canoe Public Land Deer Hunt Overview 1:00 Getting to the Trailhead to Begin the Trapline Trail Adventure to Cabin 2:53 The ATV Adventure into Our Cabin Begins 7:35 Trying to Find Our Cabin, Bushwhacking in the Dark & Cutting a Trail 10:25 Discovering a Major Problem, Alternate Plans & Closing up Camp 16:36 Making a Move When Conditions are Favourable - Leaving the Cabin 19:43 Mounting a Mission to Retrieve the ATV with my Son 21:59 Getting Back to the Cabin, Replacing the Tire & Dinner 24:35 Winterizing a Yamaha 25-Horse 4-Stroke Outboard & Closing Up 26:17 Behind Schedule & Heading Back out on the Trail in our Side-by-Side 30:02 Reflecting on the ATV Cabin Adventure with my Son 30:55 Rough Forest Access Rd. & Rainy Slog to Set up Stealth Cams 36:49 Deer Camp Set-up: Freighter Canoe Access & Wall Tent 36:18 Big Woods, Public Land Deer Hunting, Heavy Rain 42:58 Installing Amer-step Step-ups to Make a ladder up to my Stand 44:01 Hunting in Wet Snow, Rain & Challenging Conditions 45:11 Moose Steaks & Maple Syrup Butternut Squash Cooked Over the Fire 46:03 Reflecting on my Deer Hunting Trip
