Released as a single in January 1979 from the album “Private Practice”, “Milk and Alcohol” was written by Nick Lowe and Gypie Mayo. The song became Dr. Feelgood’s only Top 10 hit in the UK, peaking at No. 9 and spending nine weeks on the Official Singles Chart. In Germany, it reached No. 30, remaining in the charts for 13 weeks. It also charted at No. 4 in Ireland, their sole appearance there.
