Description

Behind The Scenes Footage — watch Old Rhinebeck's WW1 Sopwith Camel in action, in the air and while landing on the Aerodrome's grass strip. This video presents air-to-air and landing footage of the Camel, as flown by ORA's Mark Mondello. Though some of the footage in this video is behind-the-scenes quality, it has been processed (including slow motion) to experiment with the footage, and the result is certainly better than expected. Because of that, and the fact that these types of views of the aircraft in action are not common, we've decided to release this footage for the enjoyment of all aviation enthusiasts. Old Rhinebeck’s Camel is a reproduction built over decades and maintained for flight in airshows. It's powered by a 160 hp Gnome rotary engine and is painted in the markings of Flight Lieutenant Norman M. MacGregor of No. 210 Squadron, RAF. The Sopwith Camel (F.1) was introduced in mid-1917 and is credited with approximately 1,294 aerial victories during World War I, more than any other Allied fighter. Its design placed much of the weight in the forward fuselage and it featured a rotary engine whose gyroscopic forces made left and right turns behave differently. In expert hands this made the Camel highly maneuverable, though it was notoriously unforgiving to inexperienced pilots. If you enjoy period aviation footage, subscribe and ring the bell for future HAFU releases, plus other WW1 and warbird content. Please comment below with any observations on the Camel’s flight dynamics or requests for future videos. ********* Access Our Exclusive Video Content ********* Hit the Join button to become a Member of this channel and get access to our exclusive Members-Only video content: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6odimYAtqsr0_7m8p2Dhiw/join ********* Historical Machines TV : Our Streaming Service ********* HMTV is our premier advert-free video-on-demand streaming service.
