However, once expected toll figures became public, social media and public discussions quickly shifted toward affordability. According to reports, private cars may have to pay around ₹1,500–1,800 for a full one-way trip between Meerut and Prayagraj, while buses and trucks could pay several thousand rupees. Reports also mentioned that heavy multi-axle vehicles may pay more than ₹11,000 for a single journey. These figures shocked many commuters because the toll appears significantly higher than what people usually pay on several other Indian expressways. The issue exploded online after videos, reels, and posts compared the Ganga Expressway toll with airfare, train tickets, and fuel costs. Many users argued that such expensive tolls defeat the purpose of encouraging mass public use. Some people questioned whether middle-class families would regularly choose the expressway for long-distance travel if toll plus fuel costs become too expensive.
