I actually circled the block just to drive by it again because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The grass was completely out of control, and there was a row of hedges out front that had turned into full-on weed trees, swallowing up the entire front of the house. I talked to a few neighbors and they all said it had been years since anyone had touched it. They'd seen somebody show up once, ran in, ran out, and never came back. So before I got started, I did what I always do and walked the property to check for any obstacles. That's when I got to the backyard and noticed the power line was down. It had been knocked off the house, and I assumed it was live, which it was. I called the local power company and had a lineman out within the hour. He cut it, rolled it back up to the pole, and got it out of the way. That not only made the cleanup possible, it made the whole property a lot safer, especially with kids around. Once that was handled, I spent the entire day working through the property. The weed trees along the front got cut back, the yard got knocked down, and by the end of it the whole place looked like a completely different house.
