He took to his Twitter account and shared the big news with his fans. Since there were a lot of rumours doing the rounds about Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer Singh doing the film, Ali informed fans that the casting would begin once he had locked the first draft of the script. In his post, the director wrote, “Excited to partner with @ZeeStudios_for an epic trilogy #MrIndia! It is a huge responsibility to carry forward an iconic character loved by everyone. Currently, working on the script, no actor has been locked till now. Once we lock the first draft of the script, casting begins!” But looks like the announcement has not gone down too well with filmmaker Shekhar Kapur who had directed Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri’s iconic film ‘Mr India’. One of the users had tweeted, “It is completely a bad idea.... This film should not remade for its cult classic status. No one ever can match #Sridevi ji ‘s powerhouse performance and screen presence and #Amrish ji’s stealer act. It will fail vary badly. @shekharkapur Sir plz kuch karo. @BoneyKapoor Sir plzz.” Responding to the tweet, Shekhar criticized the makers for not even informing him about the trilogy. “No one has even asked me or mentioned to me about this film called Mr India 2. I can only guess that they are using the title to get a big weekend. For they cannot use the characters/story without permission from the original creators of the film,” the director tweeted. But earlier, the makers claimed that the film won’t be a sequel or remake of Shekhar Kapur’s iconic film. In an interview with IANS, the producer of the film had mentioned, “We are excited to have Ali on board for ‘Mr. India’.
