Sam Manekshaw death anniversary:When Field Marshal told Indira Gandhi that Army wasn't ready for war

On the death anniversary of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, watch the speech he delivered at St. Xavier's College in Bombay, in the year 1998. In the speech he recalls how tense the situation was during the 1971 Bangladesh crisis and yet when India’s then PM Indira Gandhi had asked the Indian Army to take immediate action in East Pakistan he refused. Many would not refuse a direct order of a PM but he spoke up and told Gandhi that the Army wasn't ready for the war yet.
