Giant Earthworm from the Amazon

We stumbled across these giant earthworms a couple of times on our recent trip to Ecuador. These huge worms are from the genus Martiodrilus and can grow to about 1.5 metres in length. They found in the Amazon basin as well as higher up in the cloud forests of the Andes. Apparently they are a favourite snack of Plate-billed Mountain Toucans in the Andes! In my home country Australia there is species similar to this: the Giant Gippsland Earthworm (Megascolides australis), but I'm yet to come across one of those!
