World’s last airworthy Lockheed P-2 Neptune — A89-273 (VH-IOY) — still roaring through the skies in 2026. Filmed at Wings over Shellharbour 2026 on 16 May 2026, this video captures the complete flight display of this extraordinarily rare maritime patrol aircraft, including takeoff, aerial display, landing, and taxi operations. More than half a century after entering service, the mighty Neptune continues to demonstrate the unmistakable sound and presence of a classic piston-powered military aircraft. Originally developed by Lockheed in the late 1940s, the P-2 Neptune served with numerous air forces and navies around the world as a long-range maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft during the Cold War era. The aircraft featured in this video — A89-273 / VH-IOY — formerly served with the Royal Australian Air Force and is now operated by the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) in Australia. Powered by two massive Wright R-3350 radial engines, assisted by jet boost engines mounted under the wings, the Neptune is renowned for its deep piston roar, heavy smoke trails, and imposing Cold War presence. Today, VH-IOY is believed to be the world’s last airworthy P-2 Neptune, making every flight an increasingly rare and historic sight. Hope you enjoy this short but unforgettable display of aviation history in motion. #P2Neptune #Neptune #Warbird #HARS #Shellharbour #WingsOverShellharbour #RAAF #ClassicAircraft #Aviation #Airshow
