25,000-Volt Railway Wire Stolen in Bihar, Patna–Gaya Train Services Disrupted A shocking theft on one of Bihar's busiest railway routes has raised serious questions about the security of India's railway infrastructure. Thieves allegedly cut and stole nearly 100 metres of a 25,000-volt overhead electric (OHE) wire on the Patna–Gaya rail section between Tehta and Jehanabad stations. The incident occurred around 3 a.m., disrupting train operations for almost three hours and affecting both passenger and freight services. The stolen wire forms part of the overhead electrification system that powers electric trains. After the theft was detected, railway officials immediately suspended power on the affected stretch and introduced single-line operations to keep some trains moving while repair work continued. Engineering teams restored the damaged section by around 6:30 a.m., allowing normal services to resume. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has recovered the stolen wire from a nearby pit, where it had allegedly been hidden before being transported. An investigation is now underway to identify and arrest those responsible. Officials say the theft is particularly alarming because it targeted high-voltage railway equipment carrying 25,000 volts, which is essential for electric train operations. This is not the first such incident in Bihar. Similar thefts involving railway signalling cables and overhead electric wires have disrupted train services in recent years, prompting renewed concerns over the protection of critical railway assets. Railway authorities are now reviewing surveillance and security measures along vulnerable sections of the network.
