Armed with brooms, shovels, and waste collection vehicles, they work tirelessly to keep the city's streets, markets, and public spaces clean and healthy. Despite their invaluable contribution, their efforts often go unnoticed. To recognize and celebrate these silent heroes, the social organization *Imagine* organized the **"Poribesh Bondhu 2026" (Friends of the Environment 2026)** award ceremony on **World Environment Day, June 5, 2026**, at the auditorium of Berhampore Textile College. The event commenced with a symbolic watering of saplings, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation. As a mark of appreciation for their contribution towards maintaining a clean and sustainable city, **28 sanitation workers from the 28 wards of Berhampore Municipality** were honored with the *Poribesh Bondhu 2026* award. The ceremony was inaugurated by **Swami Bishwamayanandaji Maharaj**, Principal of Sargachhi Ramakrishna Mission. Amid Vedic chants, the awardees received mementos, plant saplings, T-shirts, towels, hand sanitizers, soaps, and protective gloves. Addressing the gathering, Swami Bishwamayanandaji Maharaj emphasized that the environment is not limited to nature alone but is deeply connected to human existence. He highlighted the importance of the five fundamental elements—sky, air, fire, water, and earth—and urged everyone to make environmental protection a part of their daily lives.
