Feeding Poffle, a microbat in care; she's clearly starving.

Poffle is an adult female Gould's Wattled Bat, who crashed a conference, flew laps around the room and was finally trapped in a storeroom. As with most batties rescued from inside high-rise buildings, she's come in through the air-conditioning vents, most likely entering from the building roof, and sucked into the intake vent. Poffle was quite dehydrated, which further supports the scenario that she came in through the aircon ducts; they get quite bashed around during their rollercoaster ride, smacking into the sides and drying out on the ride. I don't know how long was in the vents and without food or fluids; Poffle was significantly dehydrated. I ended up with Poffle in care for me overnight pending carer availability, and I had the squirmy wriggly fun of feeding her. Her name is the collective noun for a group of magical creatures called Puffskeins. I think it suits her. A Poffle of Puffskeins. Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status.
