A Look at a Rare BMW Powered Defender 2.8i 90 and the Restoration

This is not just any Land Rover Defender. This is the best original Land Rover Defender, built officially by Land Rover with a straight-six. This is the only 2.8i Defender 90 in New Zealand (one of only 656 manufactured world wide). It is the fastest original Defender in the country. Only now are people starting to realise that this groundbreaking amalgamation of Land Rover with BMW, to produce this Defender 2.8i, resulted in the most desirable Defender ever. This Defender is of the most desirable engine, of the most desirable year, with the most desirable options, in the most desirable and eye-catching colour (original factory colour). This Defender has undergone a full restoration where it was disassembled, panels taken back to bare metal, prepared and repainted by experts and then reassembled using new hardware everywhere. It then went through an entry compliance certification, which tested its legitimacy and safety to meet NZ regulations (this was extremely exhaustive due to the low number of these vehicles produced). These Defenders are growing in popularity and are becoming extremely hard to find a good example with low Kms. A few things that were done: Chassis blasted, galvanised and painted Body removed from chassis and taken back to bare metal Professionally prepared and painted to aerospace aluminum standards (original colour) New heated leather seats New carpet and mats Full Dynamat sound proofing (this will be one of the quietest Defenders anywhere) Uprated cooling system with 4-core radiator, new thermostat, water pump and viscous fan Full engine and driveline service Wheels powder coated to match original colour New touchscreen audio system to trade blows with the new Defender (Android Auto and Apple Carplay) Central locking installed Galvanised door frames and steel skin to prevent bimetallic corrosion Fully rebuilt brakes and new master cylinders (brake and clutch) Steel instrument cluster and mount. -And so much more, making this one of the most desirable and collectable Defenders to own. As of now this is the only Defender 2.8i 90 in New Zealand and I have had the pleasure of restoring this to the absolute work of art it is.
